Macy's Chicago

Tiffany glass ceiling

If you’re ever in the cosmetics department at Macy’s, formerly Marshall Field’s, in Chicago, look up. This is what you’ll see.

This mosaic of iridescent glass was designed by none other than Louis Comfort Tiffany, of Tiffany & Co. in New York. 50 artisans labored on scaffolds for 18 months, laying 1.6 million pieces of glass over 6,000 square feet to realize Tiffany’s design. They finished their work in 1907.

It is jaw dropping.
