One more from the Argoflex Forty as I finish writing my review. I was in Lebanon on an errand and brought the camera along.

This photo was late in the roll. Winding had always been uneven, but by this frame there was a spot during winding where I had to turn the knob hard.

For whatever reason the film didn’t wind evenly onto the takeup spool and spilled past the spool’s edge on one side. I didn’t notice that until a few days after I took the film out of the camera, which allowed light to leak onto the edges of some frames, as here.

Nice old house though. I’d guess it dates to before 1850.

    Nice work with the old Verichrome and the Forty. Maybe a little unevenness in trimming the 120 spool to 620 size?

      The V-P was native 620. What I find is that the takeup spool has to be perfectly square in its receptacle. I got that right when I put the next roll through it. Review tomorrow!

    Right. I shouldn’t comment before the second cup of coffee. I’ve only done one roll of Verichome in one of my 828 cameras. Makes me wish Kodak would bring it back. I’ll look forward to tomorrow’s report.

    A remarkable high quality shot from a cheap old camera and ancient film.

    I was looking at some digital copies of old family photos from WAY back just yesterday. A shot of my dad’s 1957 Olds pulling a small travel trailer, probably taken in 1958 or ’59 with a Duaflex ll, no doubt on VP. Sharp enough in the center to read a small AAA window sticker in the corner of the windshield, and make out my mom’s reflection in the side of the shiny black door.

    I just lost my mind and ordered an Argus Argoflex 40 on ebay! If it looks like a user I’ll get some film and give it a try.

      So many old boxes were surprising performers! Yes soft in the corners but sharp where it counted.

      If your Forty is in good working order I predict you will have a great time with it. The supply side can fit a 120 spool if you trim off the edges. It opens a world of film to you! You still need a 620 takeup spool though.
