A story from the software salt mines

I posted on my other blog today, and you might like to read that story.

I make my living leading software engineers, and like to write about it. Today I share a story about how taking good care of the people who work for you can sometimes come back to you richly.

You can read it here. I hope you’ll take a look.

Good lesson Jim, nothing to do with software, just about looking after people and treating them well. I try to do similarly in my day job – my manager has always looked after me and likewise I try to do the best for my team. Regardless of any professional outcomes, it just makes for a happier and more engaging atmosphere in a place where many of us spend a huge chunk of our lives.

I wish it could always be so. I’ve worked for some truly awful bosses in my time, people who didn’t care about their people at all.
