Front Yard Tree

Front yard tree
Nikon F3, 35mm f/2.8 AI Nikkor
Kodak Tri-X (very expired)

love the dark mood in this shot. The tree-branch canopy makes my neighborhood feel so foreboding.

Kind of like a still from a horror film…”Nightmare on Grey Street.”

      Lol! Something like that.

You know what this shot reminds me of? That technique they used to use on TV shows, especially during the b/w era, to shoot during the day but make it look like night. Do you know what I’m talking about? I read about it once, how it was much more expensive to actually shoot at night than to use this technique to make day look close enough to night to get by.

It was done by using a Density Filter and a Yellow Card among other tricks.
The movie The Terror was one of the movies made it this way.

Aha, thanks for explaining how it’s done!

That’s the look I’m always hoping for from tri-x.

Well, now you know how to get it: store it indiscriminately for years, and shoot it at ISO 100.
