Would you believe that the newest of these postal trucks were built in 1994? As you can imagine, they’re on their last legs. The USPS wants to build a new fleet but lacks the money, according to the Wall Street Journal.

  1. I read that article when it first came out, very interesting. But I really wonder if there is some institutional bias in the perceived need for a custom-designed truck. Ford builds off the shelf Vans with right hand drive that would likely be a cheaper solution. I wonder if the USPS is considering anything along those lines.

    • Hunh, yeah. You’re right. Here’s hoping nothing stands in the USPS’s way of just ordering something off the shelf. They’ve refitted Chrysler minivans to RHD for mail delivery, so you think a purpose-built Ford RHD van would work.
