So what are your thoughts of the condition of the parks and grounds around DC? I found them to be in dilapidated condition for being our country’s capitol. Too many dead spots of grass, no edging or curbing where you would normally find some. Instead you’d find gravel everywhere as an quick, easy and inexpensive solution. I was very disappointed and expected so much more. The landmarks and museums were great though. I’ve seen so many small town capitols in much better condition, as if they truly cared about their appearance…..

I haven’t been since 2009, but I was surprised too that the mall was basically unkept gravel paths. As for the grass, yes it was patchy, but people walk all over it — how is it supposed to stay nice?
