What a beauty! I had no idea it was so large!

Yup. Shame that it can’t carry passengers anymore. It’s permanently anchored in Chattanooga and serves as a hotel now.

As soon as I saw this I wondered where and when (month) it was taken. A Flickr visit confirmed my “where” guess (Madison) and answered the “when” (May 26) question. As I imagine you’re aware, the header image on my blog is the Delta Queen in Cincinnati. That picture was also taken in 2008 (October 9}. The skyline has changed some since then and I sometimes think about updating the header but I can’t bring myself to part with the Queen.
I was in Chattanooga on Friday and drove by her but didn’t stop. I now really wish I had. The deltaqueenhotel.net website still exists but it doesn’t seem to be very alive. There’s no inkling of a way to make reservation. The most recent item on the hotel’s Facebook page is from June. Maybe that’s good (There has been hints of her relocating or even cruising.) or maybe not.

I wondered if I would hear from you on this! I hope the DQ remains in some sort of use, whether moored or in motion.

I believe that an exemption that would allow her to resume what she was doing in 2008 passed the house but didn’t get to a vote in the senate. Recognizing that this was hardly the only thing that congress didn’t get done last year only makes me feel slightly better. Along with the question of whether or not it will do any better this year id the question of whether or not the guys with money will wait.
