Cars of a Lifetime: 1989 Chevrolet Beretta

I called it The Dentmobile because no matter how hard I tried to keep it in nice condition, it seemed to attract accidents.

My next post in the Cars of a Lifetime series is up over on Curbside Classic. It was my one and only new car, and the one I kept the longest – eight years and 150,000 miles. This car was one constant in a period when I did a lot of growing up.

I adapted my story from a 2007 post that I reposted last yearClick here to read it on Curbside Classic.

    The Dentmobile?

    I can beat that :)

A friend in college named his car Daphne. Now this was an incredibly literate guy, even at the age of 18.

“Why is your car named Daphne?”

Because she “turned into a tree”.

“I still don’t get it. Why Daphne?”

Because in Greek mythology, their was a nymph named Daphne who was turned into a tree. This car keeps hitting trees.

Jim, I guess you had to be there. But I think the name Daphne beats the name Dentmobile for a car by a mile :)

Well, my Beretta’s alternate name was Wilbur. At least, that’s what my girlfriend called it.
